Hi there
I went to see the consultant today, and I went in on time! That's a first in all the time I've been seeing him. Even when I saw him privately in the first place, he was late getting to the hospital as he was held up by traffic.
Anyway, my bloods were fine, so I can only assume that what he thinks is right. He thinks the pain I'm getting in my hips and pelvis is caused by my back problem, so I'm going to try six sessions of acupuncture, and take it from there.
I don't know what to think about the pain in my feet, knees neck. elbows............ I'll just have to live with it.

I hope the acupuncture helps you, Lyn. Isn`t it a sad state of affairs when getting in on time is reported as being unusual and is a cause for shock and congratulation!! At my previous hospital we once waited over two hours, and they had to bring some insulin up from the pharmacy for a poor man who`d been dropped off first thing by ambulance and was still there after lunch!! Hi Lyn
It's good to know that your bloods are OK.
I don't think any of these consultants have yet cottoned on to the fact that even though there is no inflammation there is PAIN! I'm sure some of the pain we experience is due to previous damage caused by inflammation, and some of it due to muscle/tendon problems because we can't "hold" ourselves properly due to - yes, that's right, pain! So, it's a never ending circle.
I hope you soon start to feel less achey - oh for the warm weather and some sun on our bones!
Enjoy the ap!
Much love
Jeanxxxx

Hi I am pleased that you got a swift appt but have to agree with Jean and the PAIN is there sometimes without the swelling.
I DO think we should show pain in bright Orange that glows in the dark then there could be no argument.

Dear Lyn,
I agree with Jean too, sadly even if there is no inflammation or the bloods are not raging, the pain can still be present and therefore you're suffering..
Love,
Amanda

Thanks for your replies. I agree, Jenni, it would be nice if there was something to show the pain, instead of looking very healthy most of the time. Perhaps there could be an aura round us!
Acupuncture will be starting in April, I've 6 sessions booked, but if there is no improvement after 3 or 4, I shall give up. Back to square one then!
Love Lyn

I hope that the acupuncture helps Lyn. Agree with you, the blood test results often have no connection to the way we feel especially when it comes to pain. Wishing you some peace from it soon.

Good luck with the acupuncture, Lyn, I do hope it helps.
Mel, you must have a really good rheumy then, to accept that there is pain even when the bloods show little or no inflammation. Most rheumys would rather believe the blood results than what we tell them.

Hi Lyn,
I tend to agree, just because our bloods are fine doesn't mean to say that we don't experience pain and discomfort. RA has a lot to answer for and was told today by my specialist nurse that pain is also associated with the long term affects of inflammation pushing and putting pressure on the joints (muscles and tendons), so basically like Jean has said previous RA damage (not only erosion of the bone) can lead to other forms of discomfort. I am almost certain that my back problems were brought on by trying to walk when my feet were inflamed and when my RA was untreated for so long.
I have not tired acupuncture for a longtime, and would be interested to know how you get on, as I'm feeling pretty desperate with my back, which is not helping my RA.
Keeping my fingers crossed that it helps you,
love,

Hi Lyn, I've experienced exactly the same appointment. The rheumy just said that the last blood tests showed 'some inflammation but not a massive amount' and I was having all sorts of pain. It made me feel like a hypochondriac. I know it sounds awful but I was quite relieved to hear that other people suffer the same regardless of blood results, I thought I was going mad. I really hope the acupuncture helps. Take care.
